Heads have been turning from the runways of Paris to the streets of New Yrok since the release of Balenciaga’s 2013 autumn collection.
Balenciaga’s head designer, Nicolas Ghesquière, has been able to show his skill of taking classic looks and reinventing them by incorporating “a string of references that prove it was every inch as thoroughly researched as his more conceptual outings: the mythology of antiquity, stiff ruffles from a Cristobal dress circa 1968, a nymph and faun window display that Janine Janet made for the store’s windows in ’57.”
Nicole Phelps, Executive Editor of style.com, was quoted saying, “what gripped you was the cut — the way Ghesquière merged things that were quite graphic with movement.”
The Balenciaga autumn collection is unique in that it features textured prints with more tailored cut pieces which can be seen in the latest glasses collection.
