Step 1: Wash your hands

Start with clean, freshly washed hands – you’re going to be touching your eye and surrounding eye area, so you don’t want to transfer any bacteria onto your eye.

Rinse and then dry your hands with a lint-free towel.

Step 2: Take your contact lens out of the package and gently rinse them with contact lens solution

Step 3: Ensure the contact lens isn’t inside out

Place the contact lens on your finger tip, hold it up and look to make sure the edges don’t flare out. If they flare out, this means it’s inside out; simply flip it the right way if it is. The lens should look like a rounded bowl with straight edges.

Step 4: Insert the contact lens into your eye

Gently hold down your lower lash line with a finger from the same hand on which the lens is sitting on. Using your other hand, gently hold up your upper eyelid.

Then, move the lens slowly towards your eye and place it directly on your eye. Blink gently after you’ve released your eyelids to allow the contact lens to settle on your pupil.

Removing your contacts

Before removing your contacts, be sure to wash your hands first.

Stand in front of the mirror and look up, while pulling your lower eyelid with the middle finger of your dominant hand.

Gently slide the contact lens down to the white of your eye with the index finger of the same hand. Then, gently pinch the lens with the pads of your index finger and thumb to remove it from your eye.

Once you have removed your contact lenses, store them in solution in a case (or throw them out if you are using daily contacts).

Our in-house optician, Dr. Justin Asgarpour, strongly suggests you visit your Eye Care Professional for a valid contact prescription and initial contact lens fitting.

Contact lenses are medical devices and have different shapes, sizes and materials. Without a proper fitting, lenses can harm your eyes. Your eye health is important to us, so we want to make sure you’re getting the products perfectly suited for you!

During his fittings with first time contact lens wearers, Dr. Asgarpour finds that his patients generally take about 40 minutes to put their contacts in for the first time – so, no need to worry if it’s taking you some time! After about 1-2 weeks of regular use, though, you’ll be able to master this.

Step 1: Have your contact lens prescription handy

If you don’t already have an up-to-date contact lens prescription, be sure to visit your eye care professional for an updated eye exam and prescription.

Did you know that eyeglasses and contact lenses prescription are different? If you need help understanding your prescription or determining if your prescription is for contact lenses, visit our guide for reading your contact lens and glasses prescription.

Step 2: Find your prescribed contact lens brand

Visit our contact lenses page to find all of our popular brands of contacts, including Acuvue, Air Optix and Alcon Dailies.

If you’re having trouble finding your exact brand of contacts, you can also type the name of your contacts into our search box.

Step 3: Enter your prescription on the product page

Once on the product page of your prescribed contacts, select your power value from the drop-down list (as well as your cylinder and axis values for astigmatism contacts, or ADD value for multifocal contacts).

Be sure to select the quantity of boxes you’d like to order per eye. Then, just add your contacts to your cart.

What if I’m prescribed to wear a different brand of contacts for each eye?

Simply add boxes to the cart from the two separate product pages, keeping in mind to set the quantity as 0 for the eye not prescribed for that particular brand.

Step 1: Know your prescription and measurements

Before you start browsing new frames, make sure you have a copy of your current, valid glasses prescription directly from your eye care professional.

Remember! Contact lens and glasses prescriptions are different. Not sure you have your glasses Rx? Take a look at our guide on how to read your glasses and contact lens prescriptions.

You’ll also want to make sure that you have your eyewear measurements on hand. Fit can seem like the most challenging part of ordering anything online, but knowing the measurements of your current glasses will help find your next pair.

Where are your measurements? Just take a look at the temple arm of your existing pair of eyeglasses or sunglasses. They’re often listed as follows:

If you don’t see any numbers listed on your current pair, grab a ruler and measure your glasses or sunglasses (in millimeters), using this diagram for reference:

You should expect to measure between the following figures:

Lens width: 31-64 mm

Bridge width: 9-24 mm

Arm length: 115-155 mm

Typically anything at the lowest end of the spectrum is for very petite or junior faces, and the upper end of the spectrum is for large faces. Most adults are somewhere in-between.

We know that this can be tricky, but knowing which shape (heart, round, oval, or square) you most closely resemble is key. If you need a little help, check out our Face Shape Guide for Glasses.

Marissa’s lovely face is a classic oval, characterized by a narrow forehead and jawline with wider cheekbones. She leans toward bolder shapes that add definition to her features, although she loves a classic rectangle which balances her tapered chin.

We recommend choosing a few different styles for different outfits, occasions, or even just moods. Marissa, for instance, loves a classic frame for everyday use and two alternate pairs that she can use to change up her look. For her next pair, she’s looking for a frame with a classic tortoise design, so she picks “Tortoise” as the colour to refine her results even further.

There are a number of options when choosing the perfect lens to go with your newfound frames. Marissa, who has a lower single-vision prescription, typically goes for the Standard Air Lenses with Anti-Reflective coating. With the additional anti-reflective protection, she won’t have to worry about unwanted glare blocking her vision. Plus these lenses are scratch resistant, UV protected, and 22% thinner than other suppliers, making them an especially great option for slightly heavier prescriptions that can weigh glasses down.

Based on your own prescription — and how you want to use your glasses — you can select thinner lenses or even build your own prescription sunglasses.
