Through your benefits you likely have insurance dollars that include optical purchases, including prescription glasses, prescription sunglasses, and contact lenses. Follow these steps to make sure that you have optical coverage – and that you are using your allotment before it runs out!
Check with Your Insurer
As each insurance company has their own policies, and the best first step is to check with your insurer about your policy, the amount you have to spend, and any deadlines that you have to keep in mind. Remember, if you have dependents on your policy to also check about their individual allotments under your policy.
Make Sure that You Have a Current Prescription
Before ordering glasses or contact lenses online, make sure that you have an up-to-date prescription and that you are purchasing the correct product with the right prescription.
Keep Track of your Benefit Deadlines
Deadlines vary from one insurance provider to the next, with some expiring at the end of your membership year and others at the end of the calendar year. Depending on the company they may or may not allow you to roll any outstanding benefits into the next year. In most cases, the date that your insurer will review is the day that the order was placed.
Submit Your Detailed Receipt to Your Insurer
Once your order has shipped you will receive a detailed, itemized receipt that you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement.
