Name & Nickname: Lauren Brain, LB or occasionally … Brainiac
Home base: Melbourne
Current occupation: Radio journalist and newsreader, Nova100
What inspires me: Fashion shows! I love the energy, the music, hair and make-up artistry, and the excitement of looking ahead to the next season.
Try on as many different shapes as you can, to see what best suits your face. I always go for an oversized, angular shape in a heavy frame.
My glasses collection consists of: I’ve amassed quite the collection. My script hasn’t changed in a few years, so I now have seven pairs! I wear glasses all day, every day – so it’s nice to have some variety.
I chose the styles I’m wearing because: I love the two-tone colour of the glasses styles. The cat-eye sunnies are a new shape for me, and something a bit different, while the brown/black Derek Cardigan frames are a great winter tone.
A tip on picking out the perfect pair of frames is: Try on as many different shapes as you can, to see what best suits your face. I always go for an oversized, angular shape in a heavy frame, I find they work better than rounder styles for me.
Sunglasses Style: Raen Pogue in Seaglass
My favourite online source for style inspiration is: Style.com for a constant wrap-up of runway shows around the world, and Stockholm Streetstyle, Vogue, Elle, The Sartorialist and Natalie Off Duty for street style images.
Buying the same piece of clothing in multiple colours, yay or nay? It’s a nay for me. I’d prefer to spread the wardrobe love!
My favourite fashion trend of the moment is: Pastels, easy ripped denim and amazing printed heels.
If I could be stuck in an elevator with anyone, it would be: Leandra Medine, AKA the Man Repeller. We’d talk fashion and Manhattan life, in between all the gags of course.
I would describe my personal style as: Casual and fun. I like statement pieces with a really great pair of jeans, will happily play with colour and silhouette, and like to mix chain store pieces with my luxe items.
My current style muse is: Blake Lively has been killing it lately, and I’ve always loved the style of Nicole Richie and Diane Kruger.
Favourite city to go shopping is: Not surprisingly, New York. Uptown for getting lost in the shoes and handbags of Madison Ave department stores. Soho for all the best designer boutiques, side-by-side with cool NYC bars and cafes. And Brooklyn for flea markets and vintage finds.
Final word: Glasses are the ultimate accessory! I love how a different style can change your entire look, and with new online stores like Clearly, we don’t have to spend a month’s rent on a really great pair.
