World Sight Day is an annual day of awareness by the World Health Organization to focus global attention on blindness, visual impairment and rehabilitation of the visually impaired. ClearlyContacts.co.nz is proud to honour the importance of this day, and continue promoting eye health year-round.
As part of its mandate, the Change The View project travelled to a remote community in Panama to give sight testing to over 3000 children, adults and elders. With limited access to care and to glasses, many had either never received corrective care or were wearing eyewear that no longer met their eye care needs.
Over the course of several days, over 4,500 free pairs of sunglasses and prescription glasses were distributed. Wanting to make a lasting impact on the community, the Change The View project also provided a local community doctor with the tools needed to continue providing eye care to the area.
As part of the ongoing efforts of the Change the View project, and in honour of World Sight Day, ClearlyContacts.co.nz has committed to provide Site, Health or Protection for every pair of glasses sold; donations include Vitamin A tablets to children in need, a pair of prescription eyeglasses and/or UV Protective sunglasses. To date, the project has provided eye care assistance to over 340,000 individuals, but is striving towards the goal of over 2 million assisted by the year 2020.
